Here's another issue that is preventing me from diving into the whole child thing head-first:
John and I never took a honeymoon. Instead, we bought a house. We figured it was a better use of our money - and that we'd get to take a honeymoon down the line.
Guess what? Wrong on both fronts.
OOPS.
Cut to nearly 4 years later, John and I just, (and I mean JUST), completed a short sale on our house. We took a bath. Savings... gone. House... gone. Credit... not pretty.
That being said, we still haven't taken a honeymoon. Neither one of us could've predicted any of this. We believed, (and rightfully so), that we were being smart. In fact, we bought the house right when the market started the downturn that would become seemingly endless, so we thought we were getting a 'deal.' We also planned for the worst-case scenario... or at least what we thought the worst-case scenario would be... (one of us losing our jobs), and figured we could still afford the house - and thus were making a very wise and calculated decision.
Well, neither of us could've predicted what happened. We BOTH lost our jobs and quickly started acquiring debt. Lovely.
That said, we had great experiences in that house. I got to hone my landscaping skills, throw fabulous parties, decorate and enjoy our time there. We were also selected to be on HGTV's "Over Your Head" and met some amazing people who we are still friends with today. (No, the episode has not aired yet).
Anyway - point being... life is unpredictable, especially these days. We're still getting back on our feet financially. Likewise, there is no way in hell we are having children now. (In case any of you were wondering if I'm planning on getting knocked-up soon). The answer to that is a big NO. If, (and I mean if), we have children - it will be years from now, which is one of the many reasons I"m leaning towards adoption.
Glad we've cleared that up.
Now that I've gone on about 50 tangents here, let's get back to the point. We've never had our honeymoon. There's no way children are entering our lives until we've taken one... somewhere dreamy - like Europe.
