Americans Prefer Sons Over Daughters?

http://moms.today.com/_news/2011/06/24/6934166-americans-prefer-sons-over-daughters-poll-finds

This article states that according to Gallup polls dating back to 1941, Americans prefer a boy if they were only allowed one child and had to choose. 40% polled said they'd choose a boy and 28% said they'd choose a girl.

Then I took the little Live Poll on the side of the article - and these were the results:

With 5,684 respondents including me these were the results:

43% boy
57% girl

So where's the disconnect here? Then, being the curious research-crazy lunatic that I am, I looked into these Gallup polls wondering how accurate they are and how many people they actually poll and found this site, http://janda.org/c10/Lectures/topic05/GallupFAQ.htm, which stated the following:

Survey researchers have actually conducted public opinion polls to find out how much confidence Americans have in polls -- and have discovered an interesting problem. People generally believe the results of polls, but they do not believe in the scientific principles on which polls are based. In a recent Gallup "poll on polls," respondents said that polls generally do a good job of forecasting elections and are accurate when measuring public opinion on other issues. Yet when asked about the scientific sampling foundation on which all polls are based, Americans were skeptical. Most said that a survey of 1,500-2,000 respondents -- a larger than average sample size for national polls -- cannot represent the views of all Americans.

So basically polls are essentially B.S., and yet we all kind-of either believe them, or like taking part in them online anyway. They sure do get annoying around Presidential campaigns.

Anyway - back to John and I and how we are only interested in having a little girl if we kid. If this business of preferring boys is true, I'm happy we're anomalies.

In other news, I've been looking at friends' baby pictures on Facebook including my friend Jen's adorable little girl, Talia Hope who happens to share my middle name.

That said, what is wrong with me?!? We can't exactly have a child tomorrow, so I've got to tone down this baby-on-the-brain business. Ugh. Thank God I have puppies to go home to, or we'd really be in trouble.

Bounce House

John and I went to our friend's birthday/graduation party this past Saturday - and they had one of these bounce house thingys. Here is why I am officially a fan:

1. The kids are 100% entertained and happy. Parents are relatively free to mingle.

This is BRILLIANT. The bounce house kind of takes care of everything. Neato.

2. They're not expensive to rent! Pictured bounce house is about $70. Worth every penny in my humble opinion.

3. It is pretty darn cute watching a bunch of 5 year-olds jumping around like crazed lunatics. Even the high-pitched screaming is somehow inexplicably cute. (Maybe 'cause we were outside).

The fact that I am writing this should make it fairly clear that I am still leaning towards the kidding side of the fence.

Maggie's First Word = Irresistably Cute

John and I were just discussing this ridiculously adorable episode of The Simpsons and lo-and-behold, they re-aired it again last night, no doubt because of Elizabeth's Taylor's role as Maggie who utters her first word, "Daddy."

This is yet another reason I think we might have to kid.

If I Kid...

Don't ask how I found this, but if I had a little girl, I would totally want her to have a treehouse bed like this one. TOO CUTE FOR WORDS! This is a DIY I believe - and you can find out for yourself here: www.theslowlifenc.blogspot.com

One of Those Days... *Sigh*

John and I decided to be a bit naughty today - and trekked over to Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade for a rather decadent breakfast at Cafe Crepe (including Bloody Marys and Screwdrivers), - followed by a bit of window-shopping, including the inevitable visit to Puzzle Zoo, where John drooled over Star Wars toys and I drooled over this. I mean, come on. This thing is totally, ridiculously adorable. Who doesn't want an excuse to purchase one of these?

It was the second cutest thing I'd seen all day. The first was an adorable 2-year old little girl clad in a bright yellow sundress and hat, running around by the water fountain across from where John and I were eating breakfast. BEYOND CUTE. It got worse when a couple of other little girls, including her younger sister, joined in.

It was one of those days... completely filled with cute.

Then, John and I meandered over to the Santa Monica Pier, to ride the Ferris Wheel. More cute. We were surrounded... there was no escape.
