John and I have come to the conclusion that if we do the kid thing, we're adopting. For those of you who have been following this blog, this may not come as a surprise. There are a number of reasons why we'd prefer to adopt:
1. We're not ready for kids yet, and while I'm still only 33, I'll probably be closer to the 37 mark by the time we are in fact. "ready."
2. We'll be saving a life... or two! Fun.
3. We only want girls.
4. My hormonal/weight issues are way too severe for me to mess with, particularly as I get older. No thanks.
So, that said, I'm feeling really good about this. Part of me is a little excited to start the process sometime over the next year or so. After all, we can always back out, but ssshh... don't tell anyone, I don't think we will...
Of course, only time will tell. I have absolutely no clue as to what I'll blog about until then. I've been a bit preoccupied lately with the new job, but I'm sure I'll get re-inspired.
Now, where to consider adopting from?
Suggestions? Pointers? Georgene... are you reading this? How long does the process actually take? Perhaps I do have enough to blog about for the time-being.

They're in Portland and you could stop in Eugene on your drive up! All I really know about them is that my friends are adopting through them a -- are you sitting down -- 10-year-old girl! I think they're a non-religious organization, which you may or may not want. Some other friends of ours adopted through an organization in the US with no restriction on race or gender and were at the hospital at the birth of their first child two months later! Adoption is very exclamation-pointy!
Nice. I will definitely check it out. We won't be starting the process for a while yet though. Thanks to the fantastic economy that ripped us a new one over the past few years, we've got some debt and credit scores to clean up first. At least we know where we're heading if we do opt to bring children into our lives!
ReplyDeleteMy only experience with adoption has been the adoption of my brothers, and I wouldn't recommend that agency to you if you had a gun to my head. I'm sure there are some out there that are good, but I don't know them.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about the where of adopting, I suspect that might make an agency difference. By that I mean domestic or foreign? I'm a firm believer in saving our own nation first, but my brothers were adopted from Mexico, so I would never argue that when it comes to adoption.
Hey Joanna - Yes, we have considered it - and will probably be adopting internationally. The question is where! We're leaning towards China right now... but we're not committed, just as we're not committed to kids in general just yet! Are you saying don't adopt from Mexico? If so, why not? Do you like your brothers? Were you adopted too? So many questions!
